Marine Area

On 12 December 1997 the Ministry of Environment decreed the establishment of the Marine Area of Punta Campanella, according to the Law on protected areas 06/12/1991 n°394. This important institution recognizes the value of nature, landscape and history of the area and submit it to protection, while respecting the traditional economical activities.
The establishment of the Marine Protected Area includes the towns of Massa Lubrense, Piano di Sorrento, Positano, Sant'Agnello, Sorrento and Vico Equense; its main purposes are the protection and enhancement of biological and geomorphological resources and of the area, the divulgation of knowledge of marine and coastal environments, as well as the promotion of a socio-economical development compatible with the natural and landscape vocation of the area.
In order to achieve the best institutional purposes, the Natural Protected Area is divided into three zones:

• Zone “A” (Integral Reserve)
• Zone “B” (Integral Reserve)
• Zone “C” (Integral Reserve)
